The Indian team will be without Test captain Shubman Gill in the second Test against South Africa, starting in Guwahati on Saturday, November 22. According to a report in the Indian Express, Rishabh Pant has been named as the stand-in captain, while young batsman Sai Sudharshan is expected to replace Gill in the playing XI.
Captain Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury while batting in the first innings of the Kolkata Test. He was unable to field in South Africa's second innings and also did not bat during India's chase of 124. Following the incident, Gill was taken to a hospital in Kolkata for evaluation. However, he was discharged the next day. The BCCI has confirmed that he will travel with the team to Guwahati, where the team's medical staff will continue to monitor him.Will go to Guwahati with the team
A statement said, "Team India captain Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury on the second day of the Kolkata Test against South Africa and was taken to the hospital for evaluation after the day's play. He was kept under observation and discharged the following day. Shubman is responding well to the treatment he received and will travel with the team to Guwahati on November 19, 2025."
Indian team has lost the first test
After South Africa's 30-run win in the series opener, India's victory in the second Test is crucial. Ahead of the Guwahati match, the Indian team held an optional practice session at Eden Gardens. Players like Sudharsan, Dhruv Jurel, Akashdeep, Ravindra Jadeja, and Devdutt Padikkal participated in the session to prepare for the game if needed.
Changes in the rules of the Guwahati Test
For the first time in Test cricket, there will be a tea break before lunch on all five days of the Guwahati Test. Matches will begin at 9 a.m. each day, a departure from the traditional format. The day's play will conclude at 4 p.m.

First Session - Will start at 9:00 AM and will continue till 11:00 AM
Tea Break - 11 AM to 11:20 AM, tea break will be of 20 minutes

Lunch Break - 1:20 PM to 2:00 PM
Last Session - Will start at 2:00 PM and will continue till 4:00 PM
