IPL 2026: Full list of retained and released players this year

IPL 2026:

The IPL 2026 retention list , which contains information about the players retained and released by all the Indian Premier League teams, was officially released on Saturday ahead of the upcoming auction.

Among the 10 IPL teams, Punjab Kings retained the maximum number of players at 21 while Kolkata Knight Riders retained the least number of players at 12.

KKR released Andre Russell, who had been with the team since 2014. Venkatesh Iyer, who was the franchise's most expensive buy in IPL history last season, was also released.

Chennai Super Kings are also expected to be very active in this auction, as they released 13 players from last season, including the now-retired Ravichandran Ashwin. MS Dhoni has been retained.

Apart from this, big names like Glenn Maxwell, Quinton de Kock, Faf du Plessis and Ravi Bishnoi have also been released from their respective teams.

Unlike the mega auction, where teams can retain only a few core players, the mini auction allows teams to retain most of their players, provided they remain within the purse of Rs 120 crore and the team limit of 18–25 players.

Last season's champions Royal Challengers Bangalore have retained their strong core this time too, retaining 17 players, including Virat Kohli.

There have been several major trades ahead of the IPL 2026 season, leading to significant changes in several teams.

CSK traded Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran to RR, acquiring Sanju Samson. Donovan Ferreira also returned to RR via a trade from DC, in exchange for Nitish Rana. Shardul Thakur joined MI, traded by LSG in exchange for Arjun Tendulkar.

LSG acquired Mohammed Shami from SRH in an all-cash trade to strengthen their fast bowling.

West Indies all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford was acquired by MI via a trade from GT. Mayank Markande has also returned to MI from KKR.

The trade window is still open.
