Starc's lethal bowling spell

England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and elected to bat first on a brisk Perth pitch. However, Starc dealt a crushing blow to Stokes' hopes. The left-arm pacer took three wickets for 17 runs in his first six overs, including three maidens. Starc dismissed Zak Crawley in his first over.

He then dismissed Ben Duckett (21) LBW on the fourth ball of the seventh over. Starc then provided the Kangaroos with their biggest breakthrough, dismissing Joe Root on the fifth ball of the ninth over. Starc bowled a good length delivery that took the outside edge of Root's bat and went to Labuschagne at third slip.

Starc's Test career

Joe Root returned to the pavilion after 7 balls without opening his account. Before Starc, only 20 bowlers have taken 100 or more wickets in an Ashes series.
