Is India's playing XI confirmed for the first ODI? Captain KL Rahul has revealed his batting positions.

KL Rahul will captain the Indian team in the ODI series against South Africa. According to a media report, Rahul has confirmed that he will bat at number six in the upcoming ODI series. Regular ODI captain Shubman Gill is not part of this series due to injury. This has left the opening slot vacant, but Rahul says he will continue to bat at number six in the ODI team.

5 Major mistake that India made against South Africa

KL Rahul previously batted at number six in the ODI series against Australia and before that in the Champions Trophy 2025. According to RevSportz, Rahul said, "I will bat at the same position, at number six. We will try to play spin bowling better."

KL Rahul opens the batting in Tests, but he has adapted well to the middle order in ODIs. At number six, Rahul's ODI average is over 40. However, he has yet to score a fifty or a century at this position.

Rohit-Jaiswal will open

It hasn't been confirmed yet, but in Shubman Gill's absence, it's almost certain that Yashasvi Jaiswal will open the innings with Rohit Sharma. Virat Kohli already holds the No. 3 spot. The absence of vice-captain Shreyas Iyer also raises serious questions about the No. 4 spot. It's possible that Rishabh Pant will play at that position. Since Rahul has already stated that he will bat at No. 6, a spot could be created for Ruturaj Gaikwad in the middle order.

Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar could be the two spin-bowling all-rounders, while Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana could handle the pace attack. Kuldeep Yadav could play as the lead spinner.

India's ODI squad: Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli , Tilak Varma, KL Rahul (captain), Rishabh Pant, Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Prasidh Krishna, Arshdeep Singh, Dhruv Jurel
